Without hesitation I recommend Dr. Alexander McLawhorn for anyone who needs knee replacement surgery. In Feb 2024 I had Dr. McLawhorn do my right total knee replacement. In Feb 2025 when I was then 79 y.o. he did my left total knee replacement. And now Feb. 2026 I just had my final 1 year post op visit. I feel great— no pain, full mobility (exercise class 3x week, tai chi 2x week, walk mile 3-4 x week) & no complications! So now I’m a few weeks out from my 80th birthday & I am ready for tennis & pickle ball with my 8 grand kids. Dr. McLawhorn is an exceptionally skilled Ortho surgeon & his team of nurse practioner and PAs is likewise exceptionally skilled. The entire operative process from pre op education/instruction thru surgery & post op recovery & rehab was flawless… always exceeding my expectation. So it is without any hesitation that I recommend Dr. McLawhorn for your surgery… you will be in excellent hands with him. Thanks doctor for your good care of me!

Dr. McLawhorn performed my first total hip replacement three years ago and my second in December of 2025. For the first time in over 10 years, I’ve taken pain-free steps—and I honestly didn’t realize how much that would change my life until it happened. The surgeries themselves were incredibly successful, and the recoveries were both quick and smooth. What truly sets this experience apart, though, is the process and the people. From start to finish, the level of care, communication, and professionalism was exceptional. I had one surgery done in NYC and the second in Stamford, CT, and somehow the experience was equally seamless and amazing in both places. That kind of consistency says everything. Huge shout-out to both anesthesiologists as well—each went above and beyond to make sure I was comfortable, informed, and at ease. They made what could have been a stressful experience feel calm and controlled. At the risk of sounding cheesy, Dr. McLawhorn genuinely changed my life. I have two young kids, and being able to run around, play with them, and live without constant pain is something I’ll never take for granted. I’m deeply grateful and would recommend Dr. McLawhorn without hesitation to anyone considering hip replacement surgery.

All I can say is if you need a total hip replacement just head to the Hospital for Special Surgery and request Dr. McLawhorn- do not mess around with any other doctor or facility- put your hips in his care- he's the best- take it from me I had two total hip replacements completed in 2025 - left hip in April and the right hip in December- I am currently recovering from the Dec. surgery- he's extremely competent and the whole experience is awesome- I traveled from New London, CT a two hour plus commute to put my surgery in his hands- and I am a recovering pretty well- from the initial appointment til my recent 6 week followup it was an amazing experience- now I can get my life back and walk, garden, and swim in our new community pool- Dr. McLawhorn extended my quality of life- he's the best!!!!! You will no regret it- just follow his protocol

Awesome Doctor! I had a full knee replacement and my recovery was amazing. First 2 weeks were brutal (which I was made fully aware of) but now I’m 6 weeks in and to look at the knee, other than being a bit swollen, you’d never know anything happened. Scar is almost non existent! 100% recommend Dr. McLawhorn!

I was looking for a new orthopedic physician for insurance purposes, and after some research, my daughter suggested Dr. McLawhorn. Let me express how grateful I am to have met Dr. McLawhorn. Dr. McLawhorn and his office always made sure to maintain a line of communication with me in the case that I had any questions or concerns. They were always very thorough in their explanations and very attentive whenever I spoke. Any nervousness I had before surgery vanished right away. In this day and age, its easy for patients to be intimidated in a medical setting. However, Dr. McLawhorn and his staff were so welcoming, respectful, helpful and kind. Hopefully I'll never need another surgery, but if were to ever need another, Dr. McLawhorn would be my go to because I know I'd be in great hands with no worries. My recovery has been going well and I know it wouldnt have been possible without Dr. McLawhorn. Definitely 10/10 service, very grateful. My utmost respect to him and his staff at HSS!!
